Our Safari Guidelines

At Namib Safaris, we adhere to rigorous safari protocols designed to safeguard our wildlife, host communities, and valued guests. By mitigating human impact on natural habitats and prioritizing safety, we ensure that our presence supports long-term conservation initiatives. Before any excursion, our expert guides provide a comprehensive briefing to align expectations and ensure a seamless, respectful experience within our national parks.

Ethical Wildlife Observation

Authentic wildlife viewing demands patience and unobtrusive behavior. To preserve the integrity of natural animal cycles, we maintain a strict safety perimeter at all times. We request that guests:
• Follow professional guidance and maintain a calm, quiet demeanor to enhance sighting opportunities.
• Refrain from feeding or touching wildlife, as these actions disrupt natural behaviors and ecosystem health.
• Practice quiet observation, allowing for more intimate and authentic encounters with nature.

Primate Trekking Etiquette

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking are subject to specialized regulations enforced by official park rangers. To protect these vulnerable populations:
• Health Screening: Guests exhibiting signs of illness are prohibited from trekking to prevent the transmission of zoonotic diseases.
• Proximity & Photography: A mandatory minimum distance must be observed, and flash photography is strictly forbidden to prevent distressing the primates.

Respectful Community Engagement

We believe in fostering positive, mutually beneficial relationships with local communities. We encourage our guests to engage with cultural sensitivity:
• Consent: Always request permission before taking photographs of individuals or private property.
• Cultural Decorum: Dress modestly and adhere to local customs. Our guides are available to provide context and facilitate meaningful, respectful interactions.

Environmental Stewardship

Protecting Africa’s fragile ecosystems is at the heart of our operations. Namib Safaris maintains a “Leave No Trace” policy:

  • Track Integrity: Our vehicles strictly adhere to designated routes to prevent soil erosion and habitat damage.
  • Waste Management: We operate a zero-litter policy and actively encourage the reduction of single-use plastics to preserve the pristine nature of the wilderness.
