Namibia is a year-round safari destination known for its wide-open deserts, striking landscapes, and incredible wildlife. Thanks to its generally dry climate, every season offers something special but your experience can vary depending on what you want to see and do.
Dry Season (May to October) – Best for Wildlife & Classic Safaris
The dry season is widely considered the best time to visit Namibia, especially for wildlife viewing.
During these months, animals gather around rivers and waterholes, making sightings much easier particularly in Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations.
Expect: Excellent wildlife viewing conditions, clear blue skies and very little rain, comfortable, sunny days, cold mornings and nights (especially June–August, so warm clothing is essential for early game drives)
This period is also the most popular travel season, especially from July to October, but Namibia’s vast landscapes mean parks rarely feel overcrowded.
Wet Season (November to April) – Green Landscapes & Birdlife
The wet season transforms Namibia into a greener, more vibrant destination.
Expect: Lush landscapes and dramatic skies, fewer tourists and lower travel rates, excellent birdwatching, especially with migratory species present, short and refreshing afternoon showers rather than all-day rain
Wildlife is still present, but animals tend to spread out across the parks, making them a bit harder to spot compared to the dry season. From October/November through March, temperatures can also become quite hot, especially in desert regions.

Etosha National Park
Best visited in the dry season when wildlife concentrates around waterholes, offering some of the most reliable game viewing in Africa.
Namib-Naukluft National Park
Famous for its towering red dunes and surreal desert scenery, this park is best enjoyed during the cooler months (May–September) when exploring on foot is more comfortable. It can be extremely hot outside these months, limiting daytime activities.
Skeleton Coast National Park
This dramatic coastal wilderness can be visited year-round, but is especially enjoyable from October to March when temperatures are warmer and skies are clearer. Morning fog is less common, and overall conditions are more comfortable for exploration.
